The wind blew and leaves danced around them. The silence among them felt as if it would never end while they sat on the bench. Maybe lunch at the park wasn't such a good idea... Lauren thought to herself while fiddling with the ends of her gray Pea coat. William sighed, looking at the trees, unsure of what to speak about. Lauren looked over at him as she began unpacking their lunch from her floral vinyl bag. Before she was able to continue, William's hand rushed over to hers. Their eyes met, the silence continued, and for a moment Lauren thought she saw good. She had seen the loving eyes she wished to see for years, the ones that hidden from her for so long. She felt comfortable; for a moment it felt right.
But only for a moment.
William's lips were suddenly pressing against Lauren's and his hands were fondling her. Even with all her strength, she couldn't seem to pull away or fight him off. This was not what she wanted for their time together. Lauren was back in the dark place she wished to have forgotten and never return to. The silence was now filled with her constant attempt to scream. She was pushed onto the ground, she couldn't see a thing. She felt as if she was suffocating and the pressure being pressed onto her wouldn't let her escape. A sharp pain went through her from her waist up, and the tears began. The heat overpowering her was not comforting. Something was stolen that she was not ready to give, and she couldn't do anything about it. Looking up, all she noticed was a smirk...the devil had been pleased. She never thought she could be betrayed in such a manner. Lauren awoke on the grass and leaves behind the bench, feeling weak, as if she couldn't move. William had already bid farewell and had the lunch she made for him. All Lauren knew now was...
William was no different from her father.
Even though moving around hurt her, Lauren forced herself to get up and gather her things off the bench. The sun was beginning to set, and the silence surrounded her all over again. Tears ran down her cheeks and she felt numb. Why do I bother giving them chances if they all think the same? Lauren thought to herself as she began dragging her feet against the ground towards the park's exit. It amazed her that no one was even around to witness such a crime. Will anyone see me on my way home and even care? Lauren cried, taking her time as she headed home to wash away the pain people would assume she asked for.

ReplyDeleteGreat work! The transitions are beautifully executed and your details are strong. The purpose of this flashback definitely enhanced the characters and was extremely significant to the passage. Nicely done!
Yes!!! This flashback definitely gives so much depth to Lauren's character....without it, we wouldn't understand her as much as we do with it.
